Post-Procedure Care Instructions

 

Immediately After The Procedure

  • If sedated:
    • A responsible adult must drive you home and stay with you for at least 12 hours.
    • Do not drive, sign legal documents, or operate machinery for 24 hours.
  • Rest: Take it easy for the rest of the day. Avoid strenuous activity.

Injection Site Care

  • Mild soreness, bruising, or swelling is normal.
  • Ice: Apply an ice pack to the area for 15–20 minutes at a time, up to 3 times a day for the first 24 hours.
  • Keep the area clean and dry.
    • Shower the next day unless otherwise instructed.
    • Avoid soaking in baths, hot tubs, or pools for 48 hours.
  • Monitor for infection: Call if you notice redness, warmth, swelling, pus, or worsening pain at the site.

Medications

  • Resume your regular medications unless told otherwise.
  • Pain relief:
    • Tylenol (acetaminophen) is safe for pain.
    • Avoid NSAIDs (Advil, Aleve, Ibuprofen, etc.) for 24 hours after your procedure.
    • For PRP procedures, avoid NSAIDs (Advil, Aleve, Ibuprofen, etc.) for 2 weeks.
  • Take any prescribed medications as directed.

Activity

  • Avoid strenuous activities, heavy lifting, or vigorous exercise for 24–48 hours (or as instructed).
  • Gradually return to normal activities as tolerated.

What to Watch For (Call Us or Go to the ER If You Have):

  • Fever over 100.4°F (38°C)
  • Severe headache, dizziness, or vision changes
  • Difficulty breathing or chest pain
  • Numbness, tingling, or weakness in arms/legs
  • Signs of infection at the injection site (redness, swelling, warmth, pus)

Follow-Up

  • Expect a follow-up call the day after your procedure.
  • Your next appointment will be scheduled in about 2 weeks, or sooner if needed.
