Epidural Steroid Injection

Post-Procedure Care Instructions

1. Activity

Rest: Take it easy for the rest of the day after your procedure. Light activities can resume the next day.

Avoid Strain: Refrain from strenuous activities, heavy lifting, and excessive bending for at least 48 hours.

Walking: Gentle walking is recommended to aid circulation and recovery.

2. Pain Management

Discomfort: Mild soreness at the injection site is normal and should subside within a few days.

Medication: Continue your regular pain medications unless advised otherwise. Over-the-counter options like acetaminophen (Tylenol) can help manage discomfort. Avoid NSAIDs (like ibuprofen) unless your doctor advises them.

3. Wound Care

Showering: You can shower the same day, but avoid baths, pools, or hot tubs for 24 hours to keep the injection site dry.

Bandage: If a bandage was applied, you can remove it the following day unless otherwise instructed.

4. Monitoring

Signs to Watch For: Contact our clinic if you experience increased pain, redness, swelling, fever over 100.4°F (38°C), or weakness/numbness in your limbs.

5. Follow-Up

Appointment: A follow-up visit will typically be scheduled within 1-2 weeks to assess your recovery and discuss further treatment.

6. Special Precautions

Diabetes: Monitor your blood sugar levels closely if you have diabetes, as steroids can cause temporary increases.

Transportation: Arrange for someone to drive you home, especially if sedation was used during the procedure.
